hawai’i, the big island

there is a place far west of the continental united states where time seems to stand still, yet change is a constant. that place is hawai’i, and in the late summer of 2014, it quickly became one of my favorite places on earth. megan and i traveled there for our honeymoon, spending two whole weeks on the big island. we didn’t island-hop; instead we chose to stay in three different locations on the constantly evolving paradise. a handful of nights in the kona cultural heritage corridor on the beautiful property at papa kona coffee farm; several nights in a swiss family robinson-style bali cottage across kealakekua bay from the captain cook monument; and a handful of nights along the southeast coast in the puna district near pahoa, steps away from kehena beach at kehena kai cottage. the entire experience made for one of the most relaxing vacations of our lives and made it incredibly difficult to return to reality.
