peru
peru had always been on my list of places to visit, and it is on my list of places to visit again. in december 2011, megan and i traveled to the beautiful south american country. our trip took us through lima for a night before flying to puno by way of juliaca. while there we stayed with a quechuan family on the island of amantani in lake titicaca and visited several surrounding archaeological sites. on new year’s eve we took a train across the high plains from puno to cuzco, a 10-hour trip that afforded us some amazing views. we spent a week in the cuzco area enjoying everything from local delicacies like cuy to more familiar fare like tamales. and of course we traveled to the historic sanctuary of machu picchu where we climbed huayna picchu and looked down in awe upon the ancient city. it was an amazing trip.
